Master Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy: Neurological Conditions at University of Antwerp: Content

This Master’s programme offers you evidence-based clinical education of rehabilitation in neurological conditions in combination with comprehensive training in scientific research. Active and student-centered learning, a broad mixture of teaching and examination methods, a Master thesis, and clinical traineeships are the cornerstones of our unique programme.

State-of-the-art lectures and skills training
The compulsory courses in the first year (60 ECTS) will help you to integrate your existing knowledge within the field of physiotherapy. Topics of interest are Specific Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy, Concepts of Sports Physiotherapy, Neurology, Gynaecology and Urology, Cardiology, Vascular Pathology, and Psychology and Psychopathology. Teaching methods vary from class contact teaching to individual tasks and group assignments.

In the second year (60 ECTS) all courses are related to the field of neurological conditions. You will focus on the theoretical aspects of advanced methods in neurological rehabilitation. These highly specialised courses are organised in collaboration with other Flemish universities and thus comprise expertise from various top-class research groups.

Clinical traineeships and a Master thesis
This programme contains a total of 25 weeks of hands-on traineeships at different clinical locations in Belgium or abroad. In the first year you will learn how to deal with a variety of patients and diseases. In the second year your traineeships are more related to your major. You will perform traineeships in clinical places that are specialised in neurological rehabilitation.

Your master’s thesis is spread over two years. You will individually conduct a supervised research project related to a topic within the broad field of neurological conditions. Along the way you will improve and demonstrate your understanding of primary literature, your practical experience in collecting and analysing data, your scientific writing skills, and your ability to correctly share your research findings with an audience.

Why this university?

Let our students tell you why!

Blake Alexander Simmons (USA) - M.Sc. in Biology – Biodiversity: Conservation and Restoration
“This study programme can be considered as pretty international, since almost half of my fellow students are from abroad. I think it’s a great enrichment if you have so much different knowledge and many points of view around. This study experience will certainly make me a better biologist.”

Cyril France (Ghana) - M.Sc. in Development Evaluation and Management
“The study programme is well structured and followed by students from all over the world, which brings a lot of diversity in the classroom.”

Julia Port (Germany) – M.Sc. in Biomedical Sciences: Infectious and Tropical Diseases
“Compared to other European programmes on infectious and tropical diseases, UAntwerp offers courses on broader subject areas such as public health, healthcare, statistics and epidemiology.”

Juliana Pinheiro Maia (Brazil) - M.Sc. in Applied Economic Sciences: Business Administration
“The cases we cover are international and not only considered from a European point of view. The teaching level is very high and the system itself is tough, since there is only one exam at the end of each term.”

Phui San Cheong (Malaysia) – M.Sc. in Computer Science: Computer Networks and Distributed Systems
“The course is quite challenging. The Lecturers expect a lot from the students, so it’s important that you have the required academic background before starting your studies here.”

Slaviša Milovanovi? (Serbia) – M.Sc. in Physics
“UAntwerp has one of the most productive research groups and finest experts.”

Zeynep Savran (Turkey) – M.Sc. in Applied Economic Sciences: Economic Policy
“The thing I like the most in Belgium is how respectful people are for each other, regardless religion or political ideology, for instance. They have respect for diversity, I would say.”
